Do to the uneven terrain, ground crews hiked their way up to the ridgelines in order to battle the fire as pedestrians parked on the 330 freeway, and in the Walmart parking lot to watch.
Ground crews were assisted with air support including 4 helitankers, 6 copters and 8 fixed-wing air tankers dropping water and fire retardant.
One reason they had a fast turn around on the copters is do to a dip site for fire bucket operations.
San Bernardino County fire department assets included 5 engines, 2 hand crews, 2 water tenders, 1 Type2 helo and six overhead; The Forest service also had Brush Engines, The Vista Grande Hotshot, Del Rosa Hotshot crews and hill Creek Hotshot crew.
As of 6 PM the fire was 50 acres and 30% contained. No injuries reported. Ground crews to remain overnight to mob up.
The cause of the fires under investigation with Investigators on scene from multiple agencies.
